Overnight and Expedition Training for the Advanced Paddler!
The Level 2 skills course focuses on developing the practical skills for overnight and expedition tripping. Well-developed and personal mastery of skills such as a strong forward stroke, effective bracing, maneuvering in waves and currents, advanced rescues including rolling and towing are taught and perfected. Activities that show control and confidence can include: paddling through narrow rocky channels with small waves or current or traversing open water crossings in moderate winds and currents. At this level, the participant must also engage in judgement, planning and navigation tasks relevant to overnight trip planning and execution.
In this course you will learn:
- Stroke perfection and endurance
- Advanced unassisted and problematic rescues
- Rolling and towing
- Launching and landing in challenging conditions
- Advanced edging and bracing
- Navigation and route selection
- Theory of weather, winds, waves, tides and currents
- Communications, safety and risk management
- How to plan and execute an overnight camping trip
This course includes:
- All necessary equipment
- 4 days of advanced professional instruction
- 1 night of camping on a Thousand Islands National Park Island
- All tents + camping equipment
- Course manual

Cancellation Policy for Paddle Canada Certification Programs:
1000 Islands Kayaking will operate within the Paddle Canada Program guidelines and offer the Level 2 Kayak Skills Program with a 1 instructor to 4 participant ratio. Due to the logistics and planning for our certification programs, we are unable to provide a refund, if cancellation occurs within 15 days or less, of the intended program. If a replacement for the program is found or for cancellations of more than 15 days, a refund less a 25% administration fee, will be issued.
Please understand that even if you have a sudden medical problem or family emergency, we will not be able to provide the 75% refund, without a replacement for the program, unless more than 15 days are given.
Our Certification Programs will operate rain or shine, with lots of water time and some classroom elements.
If 1000 Islands Kayaking cancels a program due to weather or insufficient registration, we will offer to alter your dates, free of charge, or provide you with a full refund.

Please note: we DO NOT have parking specific to our facility. Please read the following, for your options.
May-June, September-October:There is parking available along Main Street and Kate Street, free of charge. There is also a public parking lot on Kate Street.
July-August: In addition to parking on Main Street, the Town of Gananoque offers a free shuttle service to alleviate some congestion at the waterfront. Please allocate extra time before your trip, to park and shuttle to our area. The following is a link to the shuttle schedule and route. Please follow the Waterfront Express route. Thousand Islands Kayaking is located in Gananoque, Ontario. It is centrally located in the heart of the 1000 Islands and serves a vast region including Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston, Belleville, Ottawa and surrounding areas.
